By Miss Gay’s 4th Grade Class
This is the same as the list in our classroom that the students use.
Hunt for:
- Weak verbs (and beef them up)
- Adverbs (and destroy them and beef up the weak verb they were trying to help)
- Repeated words (change some of them so the reader isn’t bored)
- First word of sentences (if they start all the same, you are not varying your sentence structure and need to make changes)
- Tells (decide if they need to be tells or if they should be changed to SHOWS. If they should be SHOWS to make the reader picture what you are saying better, change them to SHOWS).
GET RID OF:
- Useless/extra words
- Things that don’t make sense
- More elaboration or detail
- Your approach to your Thesis
- Reds that don’t match yellows
- Last sentence to be a BIG IDEA thought.
